To truly know the issues is not enough, you must also understand how the issues affect individuals, families, and society. To accomplish this, it is imperative to stay in direct contact with the people and constantly access resources to aid in policy decisions. While I don't agree with every position held, I value the professional, unfiltered data and open dialogue that helps me to form principled and effective policy positions.
