Salute Our Veterans

vetsHere’s a few of my favorite veterans…my dad, Mack Bennett (USAF) and my grandfather John Moniz (USN).

Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day; Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving while Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans. While we should pay tribute to both, there is a distinct difference.

Memorial Day is, by its nature, it is a somber event. One of reflection and appreciation, but it also comes with a sense of loss. Veterans Day however is about the here and now. It is the celebration and thanksgiving for men and women that did what the vast majority of our society is unwilling to do. Serve others often in the face of great danger and personal loss. The people that are, and should be, celebrated on Veteran’s Day are still with us. We have the opportunity to reach out to them, to touch them, to talk with them, to learn from them, and most importantly to thank them.

So, this Veteran’s Day, find a veteran – it’s not hard, they’re everywhere. Reach out to them. Shake their hand. Give them a hug. Look them in the eye and tell them how much they mean to you and to us. And while you’re at it, thank those who stand behind them…their family. They sacrifice too.

– God Bless
