Are General Assembly Priorities Aligned With SC Needs?

The coming of Fall not only brings cooler air and football on Saturday, but also the annual gathering of political parties and other groups to begin to shape their legislative priorities for the upcoming session.  Each year the two bodies of the SC General Assembly separately prepare an agenda for the upcoming legislative year. The question is, are the priorities identified aligned with the needs of the state?  We’ll soon know the answer.

2014 is also an election year.  We’ll be electing a Governor, the entire House of Representatives, a State Senator, several constitutional officers, as well as local and federal officials.  With that comes a certain amount of political theater that we must endure.  Hopefully this opportunity will allow us to make some meaningful strides on issues that affect all citizens.

Sure to gather the attention of many is ethics reform and our significant needs when it comes to transportation infrastructure.  Also of great concern are Medicaid and the effects of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act on South Carolina.  If you have issues that you believe need to be addressed, now is the time to begin to reach out to your legislators.
