SEAN BENNETT NAMED SENATE ETHICS COMMITTEE CHAIR
Vacancy Results In New Chairman To Lead Committee
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Senator Sean Bennett, R-Dorchester, this week was selected to serve as the chairman of the Senate Ethics Committee.
Preceded by Senator Paul Campbell, who this week became the chairman of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, Senator Bennett joined the ten member committee responsible for reviewing and investigating possible ethics complaints and ensuring compliance with campaign finance reporting requirements. Senator Shane Massey, R-Edgefield, made a motion for unanimous consent of the Senate on Thursday, June 28, 2018, to allow Senator Bennett to join the committee becoming the new chairman; the motion was approved.
“I thank my peers in the Senate for their support of confidence, and I look forward to the opportunity to serve as chairman of the Senate Ethics Committee,” Senator Bennett says. “The public’s trust and confidence that their elected officials are operating in a transparent and ethical manner is paramount to our work in the Senate. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a voice on this important committee, lead the capable committee staff and continue to serve my district in the Senate.”
Elected in 2013, Senator Sean Bennett represents portions of Dorchester, Berkeley and Charleston counties. He serves as the chairman of the Senate Ethics Committee. He also serves on the Finance; Banking and Insurance; Transportation; and Labor, Commerce and Industry committees.
